Organic skin care products tips

With the people realizing the worth of natural and organic skin care products, manufacturers are moving towards producing more of natural and organic products than the chemical based ones.

With so much hype about both these products, it is important to know the difference between organic skin care and natural skin care products. Both don’t have much difference between them, but they are two separate things as they are made differently. Organic skin care products are made naturally whereas natural skin care products, though made naturally, use certain pesticides to make them grow better and faster.

For instance, tomatoes are grown in the conventional way but are treated to grow better with the help of pesticides and insecticides. Thus they are natural, but not organic. The organic skin care products have less amount of nitrate in them, with high levels of vitamins and antioxidants.

Once we know the difference between the organic skin care and natural skin product, the next step is how to know for sure whether a product is completely natural or organic or not. Here are some tips on how you can find out:

  • Before buying any product, go through the labels. Keep in mind the rule of thirds. That is, the top third of the ingredients stated in the label are the ingredients that contain around 90% of the product. Most of this should be water. The middle third represents the ingredients which make up to 8% of the product. And the last third is up to 3% of the product.
  • Natural means 'existing in or, formed by, nature'. Both mean two different things in relation to skin care products. The manufacturers commonly use the word 'natural' to attract more consumers. For instance. Xyz product could be derived from coconut oil. It might be from coconut oil, but for extracting process a chemical is used, which could cause cancer. Thus an ingredient claiming to be 'natural' and derived in this way is not really natural.
  • Look for organic certification, which is the only way to make sure that the product is what it says it is.
  • If a product is organic, it should contain minimum water. As the water constitutes could be a certain percentage of the overall product. For example, if it contains 70% water, they claim it is 73% organic. If you removed the water from the product, the actual amount of herbal ingredients might come to less than 1% of the total product.
